It genuinely tried to be complex and thoughtful on a deeper level, and while FC3 still tries to do that it's blockbuster approach unfortunately reduces a lot it's impact compared to the relative straightness of FC2. It's whole approach to it's first person perspective was perfect (having to actually pull out a map to see the map, the fact there were about 20-30 injury animation variations for specific situations unlike the 10 or less in FC3, etc), the AI and difficulty was much higher to the extent that FC3's enemies feel dumbed-down, and while the story wasn't exectly engaging I loved the moral ambiguity of it. Don't get me wrong, FC3 has heaps more things to do and the story is marginally better, but FC2 had so many good aspects that were pretty much thrown out in the new entry.
